Tristan’s Book Cake July 13, 2009

While I have been out of town for over a week visiting friends and family all over the place, I have not been without a cake project!  Last Tuesday my friend Emily gave birth to adorable baby Tristan!  I knew I’d be passing by her way, so after making sure she’d be up to company, I made her a cake!  (Besides just liking Emily and Rob and babies, I had picked up some fun new cake supplies in Shreveport at a little shop called Cake Creations, so I was looking for an opportunity to use them!)  Emily loves to read, so a book cake seemed like the perfect fit.  The top cake is chocolate and the bottom is yellow.  Both have buttercream under chocolate fondant covers.  It survived 11 hours in a car in July surprisingly well, and only required a little repair.

Cake Withdrawal May 29, 2009

After all the cake commotion I’ve had for the past month or so, this week has felt incredibly calm.  A little too calm.  Without any cake orders I had the week free to do whatever I wanted!  So what did I do?  I made cakes, of course!

I made this cake to suprise our friends Dave and Amie who are going to celebrate their 9th anniversary this week!  Congratulations you guys!

Strawberry Lemon Bloom Cake

It is a “Strawberry Lemonade Cake.”  The inside is layers of strawberry and lemon cake with lemon buttercream, a little strawberry filling, and strawberry fondant.  For those of you who aren’t sure if peonies are food safe, I wasn’t sure either.  I washed it really well and put plastic wrap behind it so no part of the flower actually touched the cake.  And I know it wasn’t grown with pesticides because it came from my garden!

With the leftover supplies, I had enough to make a little cake for me! :)

Strawberry Lemon Small Flower Cake

This is what the inside looks like.  I think in the future I might try marbling the two instead of layering for a different effect.

Lemon Cake April 14, 2009

I tried a new lemon cake and lemon buttercream recipe to take to dinner with friends.  Yum!  It’s always fun when I actually get to eat the cakes I make.  (I was in a hurry, so I decorated the cake before it had completely cooled, which is why the border is starting to slide just a bit.  Not something I usually do!)

Happy Day Cake April 14, 2009

This is a cake I made for St. Patrick’s Day/my boss’s birthday/just for the fun of making a cake.  I wanted to try a rainbow cake I saw on hostesswiththemostess.com, and try painting on fondant.  This is the result!
