Wedding Reception Cakes! September 18, 2009

This weekend I got to make three cakes for a wedding reception.  The couple is having a ceremony in Mexico, but they’re having a small reception here for family and friends.  I got to have a lot of creative freedom, so for the two small cakes I tried a design I’ve been wanting to do ever since I saw it.  (Tutorial here.  Mine didn’t turn out quite as cute as the pro’s, but not bad for a first attempt!)  The striped cake turned out to be a happy accident.  So happy in fact, I might just put my own short tutorial up!

Topsy Turvey Wedding Cake! May 25, 2009

This is a topsy-turvey (a.k.a. mad hatter or wonky) cake I made for a wedding this weekend!  The bride had a fun color palette of dark blue, lime green, and hot pink.  She gave me a picture of the cake she wanted and fabric swatches to use to match the colors of the frosting and the fondant.  I actually got to go to the reception, and it was fun to sit back and watch people react to the cake.  Most people liked it, though it did get a few quizzical looks.  I wanted to go tell them, “Yes, it is supposed to be crooked.” 

The bride and groom made quite a few things for the wedding, including the cake topper!
